Knowsley's street lighting is in urgent need of replacing. Thanks to Knowsley Council securing a multi-million pound Private Finance Initiative contract, new white lights will be installed, providing better, more focussed lighting which will help to make the streets safer. The new lights will also be more environmentally friendly as they use less energy, reducing CO2 emissions.
A white circle with the letters SL in the centre will appear showing where the new lamp posts will be. The main works will start two or three weeks after you have received this information. Once the new lamp posts have been installed, cables will be laid and the lights connected to the power supply. The work is likely to take about two weeks and then the lights are switched on.
As the new lights will be of a better quality and some may be taller, fewer lamp posts are needed to light the highways effectively.
During the works, necessary measures will be taken to ensure there is no risk to personal safety. Please make sure you read any safety notices. Any holes that are created will be protected for safety and will be filled in again as soon as possible.
Any disruption to parking will be kept to a minimum. However, parking may be restricted for a short time where the work is being carried out. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
You should be able to use your drive as normal unless we are working directly outside your house, in which case we may have to ask you to park your car somewhere else for a while. If you have specific access / mobility issues, please speak to one of our engineers carrying out the work who will help you.
We may need to use temporary traffic lights to control traffic on narrow or busy roads.
Bins will be collected. However, if we do need to move your bin at the time of its collection, we will move it to a single collection point away from the work and return it when emptied.
The existing lamp posts, both steel and concrete, are completely recycled. SSE Enterprise Lighting do not send anything to landfill.
The new lights are much more focussed and therefore there should be less light 'spillage'. It does take time to adjust to new lighting, however, should the matter cause you any concern, please contact us to discuss this further using the details on the back.
The work will be carried out by SSE Enterprise Lighting in partnership with Knowsley Council. SSE Enterprise Lighting is the largest street lighting contractor in the country and is part of the SSE Group.
